Hotels are generally moderately priced, except during peak periods -- specifically, the New Mexico Arts and Crafts Fair (late June), the New Mexico State Fair (Sept), and the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta (early Oct) -- most of the city's hotels have vacant rooms, so guests can frequently request and get lower room rates than the ones posted.
The Albuquerque International Sunport has recently completed construction of a free "Cell Phone Waiting Area" for use by the general public. This will allow meeters and greeters at the airport to park in the lot and wait for a call from their arriving passenger before driving to the front of the terminal for pickup. This will help reduce congestion and security problems in front of terminal as well as saving fuel. Please note that you must remain with your vehicle at all times while in the cell phone waiting area.
The Sunport also offers two free Aircraft Observation Areas that can serve as cell phone waiting lots. One is on Girard just east of the terminal, near the primary cell phone waiting area. The second is south of the terminal on Spirit Drive, just east of University. We hope that you find these free waiting areas useful and value any input your may have regarding them.
