Athens International Airport is located 33km southeast of Athens and is easily accessible via Attiki Odos, a six-lane motorway constituting the Athens City Ring Road.

Public transport to Athens and the port of Piraeus is provided by metro, railway and express airport buses, ensuring efficient transport for air travellers and facilitating linkage to key tourist attractions.



Public Buses

Six public bus routes serve exclusively the airport, connecting the greater area of Athens and Piraeus with the airport.

Passes: The monthly ticket cards are also valid on the above four lines and cost €38,00. For those meeting certain requirements, a discounted monthly card is also available for €19,00.

The penalty for not having a validated ticket is €32.00

All Express Buses disembark their passengers at the Departures Level and they depart from the designated area located at the inner curbside of the Arrivals Level, right outside the Intra Schengen area, between Doors 4-5.

Buses depart from the Arrivals Level (close to Door 3) of Athens International Airport. Ticket prices for one-way trip is €3 for all services except for the port of Lavrio (€4).

- Departing passengers are disembarked from coaches at designated areas on the Departures level.

- Arriving passengers can proceed to the coach holding area through Door 1 of the Arrivals level. Coaches make use of the designated area at the southern side of the Terminal Building.

Trains depart from the Airport every 15 minutes. The journey time from Athens International Airport to Larissis Station is approximately 38 minutes.

The airport is accessible by taxi on a 24-hour basis. Passengers reaching the Airport disembark at the Departures level, where they can proceed directly to the check-in counters. When leaving the airport, please make use of the taxi queue next to Door 3 of the Arrivals Level.

Short term parking

Recommended for stays up to 4 hours are short-term car parks P1 and P2, right outside the Arrivals level of the Main Terminal Building, where 1360 spaces in total are available.

Long term parking

Planning to park for a period longer than 5 hours? Then you should park at P3, across the Attiki Odos motorway, where there are 3378 parking spaces.

Parking spaces for PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES will find amble parking space designated for use in convenient locations at each parking lot.

Executive Valet Parking

All travellers wishing to use the Executive Valet service should drive their car directly to the Main Terminal's Departures Level, deliver the keys to one of the Executive Valet Parking personnel, specify their return flight (date and time), and receive their ticket. Your car is returned to you on the specified date and time at the same point at the Departures Level where it was initially delivered.

Transport to / from P3 Parking Express

You can pick up the shuttle bus ?? Parking Express ?? from one of the 6 designated stops. The Shuttle Bus service is free of charge, and you can be at the departure level easily, in approximately 5 minutes. The ?? P3 Parking Express ?? is also equipped with a wheal chair ramp to serve people with disabilities. To return to P3, you can board the ?? P3 Parking Express ?? from the bus stop in front of gate 3 of the Arrivals Level. All bus stops are connected with the ?? Smart Stop ?? electronic system that locates the course of the shuttle buses. The electronic board of each station displays automatically the remaining arrival time of the shuttle bus. Please push the red button, which is located at the all bus stops and activates the ?? Smart Stop ?? system, to call the shuttle bus and be informed on its arrival time. There are Time Boards at each shuttle bus stop providing information related to the shuttle bus routes.

Six car rental companies currently operate at Athens International Airport with

offices located at the Arrivals level. The car rental area is within walking distance from the Main Terminal Building, located at the northern side of the building.

Arriving passengers with pre-booked rentals or wishing to rent a car should proceed to the respective operator's booth at the arrivals level. The operators' personnel provides detailed instructions for the exact location of vehicles in the car rental area.

Departing passengers wishing to return their rental cars should follow the respective signs along the Airport Main Access Road that leads to the car rental area.

Baggage trolleys are available in this area and designated pedestrian walkways lead to the Main Terminal Building.

This Children's Creative Entertainment Area provides a free-of-charge service offered by AIA and the non-profitable organization ''The Smile of the Child'', to the passengers travelling with children. Athens - Handicapped Facilities


The new Athens International Airport has been specially designed to be an airport for all. All airport facilities have been planned to serve people with any type and degree of disability as well as older people and families with children. Our airport adjusts its functions to the needs of all its users. Wherever there are special needs, we are here to provide special services. We believe that passengers requiring special assistance, as well as their escorts will be able to enjoy a pleasant and comfortable stay at our airport. We stand by you offering our services and we are at your disposal for any assistance needed.


Designated parking areas in the Parking Facilities are available for disabled passengers with minimized distances to the terminal. Special signage indicates these special parking spaces with a width of 3.5m to accommodate wheelchairs.

In addition, special ramps from the parking facilities up to the entrance of the terminal are provided for passengers with special needs.

Special Waiting Area

An open waiting area exclusively for special passengers is located next to entrance A2, on the Departure level. Special signage indicates the exact location.

Unaccompanied children may also be accommodated at this special waiting area reserved only for this purpose. These areas are located next to Olympic Store, Departures Level and opposite Information Counter 4, both indicated by special signage "UM".


Tactile floor markings are available outside Entrance A2, Departures Level, which lead to the special passenger service counters and the special waiting area.


There are 105 special designed toilets throughout the terminal buildings indicated by special signage. Special intercom units have been installed in case of emergency. Support rails, lever taps and special dispensers have been fitted for easy use and access.


All elevators can accommodate wheelchair passengers and all have Braille buttons and sound control that can be heard inside and outside.

Drinking Fountains

Drinking fountains designed for special passengers are located throughout the airport. They are 50% and 916mm lower height and have front and parallel approach for wheelchair access.


Text phones have been installed in the terminal buildings for the facilitation of passengers with special needs (deaf).

Baggage Halls are wide with easy access to all facilities and designated area for wheelchair passengers next to baggage reclaim area.

Back illuminated signage with dual language and large internationally recognizable pictograms have been installed throughout the external and internal areas of the terminal buildings.

Special Passenger Service counters are located next to Entrance A2, on the Departure level. Two of these counters are low for eye contact for the wheelchair passengers. These counters may be used for special assistance and/ or check-in depending on the airline’s procedures.

Meet & Assist Passengers

Departing Unaccompanied Minors

The parents, legal guardians or an authorized adult, who accompanies the child to the airport, shall complete a form provided by the airline.

The adult has to provide the airline or handling agent with all the necessary documents, such as passport, ticket, etc.

The child shall remain under parents or legal guardian’s escort until the airline staff takes the unaccompanied minor to the gate for embarkation.

The responsibility of care is then transferred to the cabin crew of the respective airline.

The parent or escort shall stay at the airport until the aircraft has taken off.

Arriving Unaccompanied Minors

Airline staff escorts the unaccompanied minors from the aircraft to the arrival exit. The authorized meeter is requested to show his/her identity card and sign the airline’s relevant form in order for the child to be handed over.

(Elderly passengers, Pregnant Women, Young Passengers, Deaf Passengers, Blind Passengers, etc.)

Meet and Assist Passengers receive every attention and support required and are treated as special passengers. Airline staff enters all the necessary information into their system in order to advise all parties involved regarding the assistance required depending on each case till the special passenger’s final destination.

Airline staff is responsible to escort departing Meet and Assist Passengers to the gate lounge for embarkation.

Arriving Meet and Assist Passengers can also be escorted to the arrival exit or offered extra assistance upon request to the relevant airline.

Wheelchair Passengers

The airline staff checks-in the wheelchair passengers either at the check-in counter or the special passenger service counter.

Airlines are responsible for the provision of wheelchairs for their passengers and for escorting them from the departure check-in hall to the gate and then to the aircraft.

Arriving wheelchair passengers are escorted to the baggage reclaim hall by the airline staff. Extra assistance is offered regarding their baggage collection and/or hand over to the person waiting/meeter.

Athens International Airport - FULL SCALE EMERGENCY EXERCISE - November 8, 2006

Athens International Airport organises emergency exercises on an annual basis, aiming at ensuring the highest level of security, readiness, training, and coordination of all other parties involved in emergency situations.

The Full Scale Emergency Exercise 2006 “Aircraft Accident at the Airport”, which took place yesterday, Tuesday, November 8th, 2006, was organised in compliance with the obligations arising from the ICAO regulations. It is worth noting that this is the first emergency exercise organised by Athens International Airport during night conditions (starting time of exercise: 20:00), complicating further the rescue procedures.
