Wi-Fi Before You Fly - Press Conference and Wire-Cutting
Wireless fidelity, more commonly known as Wi-Fi, is now available in over 5.8 million square feet of space at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
Wi-Fi uses short-range radio waves to connect laptop computers, personal digital assistants, and other wireless devices to the Internet. The Airport itself will be one huge “hot spot”, allowing users to access wireless Internet service from virtually any point inside the Airport, including the typically hard-to-reach transportation mall under the concourses.
In addition to creating a network that enables users to log on anywhere, anytime at the Airport, Hartsfield-Jackson is facilitating a competitive pricing structure for users by establishing a truly neutral host system. Instead of one Wireless Internet Service Provider (WISP) owning or managing the Wi-Fi system, the Airport is its proprietor. When a user powers on their laptop, if they have a wireless card (internal or external) the airport’s SSID will communicate with them resulting in the display of the splash page. The splash page will allow user access to all information on the Atlanta Airport website and the world wide web with wireless Internet access.
Numerous hotels and inns are located within the area surrounding Hartsfield-Jackson and many offer free shuttle service to and from the airport.
Courtesy hotel shuttle service is available in the ground transportation area west curb, immediately outside the airport's Terminal North and Terminal South. Hotel courtesy phones are also available inside the Terminal in the baggage claim area as well as outside in the ground transportation area.
