Copenhagen Airport moves up on list of European airports with lowest charges
The level of charges airlines pay to fly out of Copenhagen Airport has gone down. A comparison of the level of charges at the 25 largest airports in Europe shows that Copenhagen Airport is now number nine on the list of airports with the lowest charges.
The charges airlines pay to use the facilities of Copenhagen Airport are among the lowest of major airports in Europe. Out of the 25 largest airports in Europe, Copenhagen is now ninth lowest, with lower charges than those of competitors such as London, Heathrow, Frankfurt and Stockholm.
This appears from an annual comparison of the level of charges at the largest international airports in the world made by Transport Research Laboratory (TRL), an international research institute. The institute has just presented a report showing the results for 2006.
"Now and then it is claimed that charges at Copenhagen Airport are far too high.
With the TRL’s objective comparison in our hands, we can once again reject that claim," said Niels Boserup, President and CEO of Copenhagen Airports A/S.
Charges reduced
Copenhagen Airport reduced its charges by 3% at the turn of the year, with the effect that the airport has moved from having the 12th lowest charges in Europe last year to 9th lowest this year.
The TRL compares the level of charges at 50 airports worldwide on the basis of the price of landing and taking off for eight common aircraft types with average passenger numbers. With few exceptions, the survey comprises all airports with more than 10 million international passengers per year.
The special Danish passenger tax which the Danish government decided to phase out last year is not included in the TRL comparison. For a number of years, this charge made it more expensive for airlines to fly out of Copenhagen than out of many competing airports, irrespective of the level of charges at CPH. At the beginning of 2006, this tax was reduced by half, and it will disappear completely from 2007, which further strengthens the position of Copenhagen Airport in the competition with other North European hubs.
